Fortesa Orana and Ugur Aktas are Basel Open Masters 2023

Last weekend the Basel Open Masters 2023 in the St. Jakobshalle in Basel was successfully completed. Already in the 13th execution, the international karate tournament has invited kata and kumite fighters from a total of 26 nations to Basel. With more than 900 entries, the Basel Open Masters is the largest international karate tournament in Switzerland. The starting list included big names such as Olympic champion Sajad Ganjzadeh (Iran), European champion Ugur Aktas (Turkey) and World Championship medalist Asiman Gurbanli (Azerbaijan). Various top Swiss athletes from the Swiss national squad were also successful in Basel.

Thus, Switzerland also leads the overall medal statistics with 16 gold medals, 21 silver medals and 50 bronze medals ahead of Turkey and Italy. In the parade discipline, the Basel Open Masters (Open category of the elite), two athletes could be crowned. In the women’s category, Fortesa Orana, a karateka competing for Switzerland, beat the competition. In the men’s category, Ugur Aktas from Turkey successfully prevailed over the other top athletes. Fortesa Orana and Ugur Aktas are the Basel Open Masters 2023. Congratulations!
